Standardized Protocol to Optimize Return to Sports (SPORTS) Assessment

The UConn ISM Standardized Protocol to Optimize Return to Sport (SPORTS) assessment offers a comprehensive set of standardized protocols to optimize the return-to-sport process for athletes. This assessment includes joint specific tasks, at the ankle, knee, hip and the upper extremity. The assessment includes tasks that measure dynamic stability, neuromuscular control, landing and take off biomechanics, and multiple hop tests to assess lower-limb function. Each test is designed to measure performance through a series of trials, capturing critical data on balance, agility, and limb symmetry to ensure athletes are ready for a safe return to their sport. With equipment ranging from simple tape measures to advanced motion capture systems, this evidence-based approach helps clinicians monitor recovery progress and minimize the risk of re-injury.
